This is a video of the Lindsay/Gingery coil winder that I built a ways back. It makes nice universal wound coils as well as solenoids. It is basically the Morris coil winder that was popular in the early years of radio.

This coil winder is primary used for winding of honeycomb coils. The winding eye is driven by an ordinary servo for modelers; the winder can be programmed for winding of coils with arbitrary dimensions.
Achieved precision of the machine is surprising: it is possible to wind coils with thickness as small as 1 mm.

I call this a HVTWRC High voltage toroidal wound Rodin coil.
Notice the ""... It's not levitating off the table but it's standing up by its self.
Well.... What can I say, this is cool! I like what I see but wonder what is going on?
I mean I know the screw is being magnetized by the coil and that's why its standing up. But its not spinning like I thought it would. But it is standing up on end by its self. Let me know what you think?
also some one else try it and see if they can get it to stand up! it may be the outer coil I have the Rodin wound on?
Let me know what you think?

The math involved in the coil design is amazing!!! READ IT!!!
You must understand the math to make high quality coils!!!
This is a just for fun project! I will be making more coils and testing them with things like this! Not too scientific in this video but having fun learning!
Enjoy!

Winding a double helix copper condenser coil from 6mm copper tube for use in a 50mm reflux column. Made the winder from an old boat trailer winch, 16mm stainless tube, scrap iron and a cambelt bearing from a Mazda Demio. It is easy to wind the outer coil by hand but the inner coil is a bastard to do by hand. Wasted metres and metres of copper tube trying! It takes only a few minutes to wind the coil and filling the copper tube with salt is the most time consuming. It is certainly not the most beautiful coil I have ever seen, but it works like magic. The coil is part of a still project we are working on and I will make a video of the finished project once we are done with it...... eventually!!

Quad "Air" coil all copper design. I've had some unique results with this coil design.
I will upload a video showing some of them soon.
