Today we'll be testing and replacing P0720 REVOLUTION SENSOR. Also known as — Vehicle Speed Sensor A/T. Don't get this confused with P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor. P0500 deals with speedometer reading on your dashboard. P0720 deals with Automatic Transmission Control Unit / Computer.
The revolution sensor detects the revolution of the idler gear and emits a pulse signal. This signal is sent to the A/T control unit (computer) which converts it into vehicle speed.

So now, after getting the 2010 Nissan Rogue back on the road with a new CVT installed, we finally have a chance to answer the most important question:
Why did the original CVT fail in the first place??
In PART 1 (this video) we start the teardown of the original CVT. The further we dig, the more carnage we find. But this is just the tip of the iceberg...
In PART 2, we complete the teardown and analyze the sequence of events to find the ROOT CAUSE of the failure:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_64zEsMdQ9A
Part 2 also includes a description of operation of this CVT, as well as discussing the "weakest links" and possibly explaining why so few of these transmissions make it to 200k miles.
Is it a design flaw, or lack of maintenance?
You will not see this type of information and failure analysis anywhere else. This is engineering-level stuff, and my true passion for finding faults in a broken system/device.
As always, I appreciate all the support, comments, and feedback!
Enjoy!

Crankshaft Positioning Sensor Replacement 2002-2006 Nissan Altima 2.5L
Check Engine Light went off with error codes:
P0725 — Engine Speed Sensor
P0335 — Crankshaft Positioning Sensor — Sensor A
The above codes might be accompanied by Code P0340 — Camshaft Positioning Sensor Circuit Malfunction.
The car became hard to start, had rough idle/run, no start for a long time if the engine is hot, or engine occasionally stalls/shuts off on the traffic light, which is very dangerous...
Replacing Crankshaft Positioning Sensor fixed the problem. I replaced the Camshaft Positioning Sensor as well to have both of them brand new. Use the following link to share this video:
