Scanner Hack — 12v Fluorescent Driver from a ScanJet 3200c — 12v 0. 5a (6 watts)
For something to do, I grabbed a bunch of free scanners at the computer recycle depot and when I pulled them apart I was please to see the high voltage circuit, discreet, on it’s own — a nice little PCB, ready to use for driving fluorescent lights with a 12v battery. Also, there is a nice little step motor, optical stop sensor, and nice cold rolled steel precision made rod.

HP 2015 Laser Printer Formatter Bake Repair
There are several videos on YouTube that show examples of a «bake» fix for a bad formatter. This is my unscripted attempt to do the same thing.
1) I show a walk-through of what the problems are.
2) I take apart the printer and show what is going to happen and why.
3) Preparations for Bake fix takes place.
4) Re-installation of formatter onto the printer and the results.
Update and Notes: My attempt worked but I got some intermittent USB connection error messages that have appeared since the fix. These few times have in no way hindered printing in the slightest, only sending the slightly annoying message that the computer has lost connection to the printer. Doing the «Troubleshoot Repair» windows 7 fix got rid of that message both times.
I love this printer and this was worth the attempt as well as the slightly annoying loss of communications messages that appears.
SPECIAL THANKS go out to all the people who posted similar videos before me that walked us through step by step. Awesome job and keep up the great work.
*04/06/2014 Update*: Printer is still working fine. I’ve gotten 3-5 intermittent USB connection error messages since I attempted this fix. Restarting the computer has fixed the problem. Thank you all for your messages/comments.

Ben Heck’s Laser Printer Salvage
Ben tears apart a broken laser printer to see what parts he can salvage from it. He finds a variety of useful items from springs to opto-interrupters and muses about how the parts can be incorporated into future projects. A heap of ABS plastic is left in the wake of the teardown and gets Ben brainstorming ideas of how it could be turned into 3-D printer filament instead of going into the recycling bin. Fading, light spots, and lines are a problem that occurs eventually in many laser printers, and this is an attempt at fixing one.
This video describes a different approach to the repair of a Samsung CLP 300 color laser printer.
This more in-depth repair presents many opportunities to lubricate a squeaky printer, however I do not in this video.
I cannot offer any solid advice as to what type of lubricant to use, but if I was to lube it myself I would use a thicker product like a bearing grease, or maybe white litho — something that would serve to keep junk out, rather than «wicking» it in like a liquid or spray might do.
