The Wild Women of Wongo

The film starts with narration from Mother Nature discussing an experiment with Father Time that went wrong. On the (fictional) island of Wongo she created a tribe where the men are brutish and ugly and the women are beautiful. She then creates a tribe on a nearby island where the women are repulsive and the men are strong and handsome. For years the two tribes lived unaware of each others existence, until ape men from across the ocean attack the village of handsome men.

3rd Annual Now Film Festival -Week 18 Finalist - Gravida

A relationship that can only lead to loneliness and hope.

Happy Valentines From Now Film!
Every so often a filmmaker will come out of a small town and have a film that is as promising as Gravida. With a shoestring budget and a few friends, Lucas McNelly tells a story of loneliness and uncertainty better than most of the filmmakers in Hollywood can imagine. Back in the early 90s, directors such as Tarantino and Rodriguez taught themselves film by working in video stores — today we have a new generation that uses Netflix and Youtube as their teachers.

Last year McNelly's beloved blog 100 Films, helped him garner the eyes of successful Hollywood's top minds such as Peter Bart, which in turn helped him get noticed as a future filmmaker.

What is the Now Film Festival

We love other film festivals, but understand that not everyone has the means to travel to Cannes, Sundance, Tribeca, so we're bringing the message of the world's strongest filmmakers to you the world-wide-audience

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Emmeline (Brooke Shields) has Richard (Christopher Atkins) feel her stomach which mysteriously moves by itself.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
This 1980 version of the oft-filmed Henry Devere Stackpoole novel The Blue Lagoon was the first to be stamped with an "R" rating. The basic story remains unchanged. Two very small children, a boy and a girl, are shipwrecked on a lush tropical island. They are cared for by fellow castaway Leo McKern. When he dies, the kids, played with a minimum of clothing by Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins, have no one but each other. When they grow into teen-hood, they also fall madly in love. Heavily reshaped and reedited before its release, The Blue Lagoon's principal attribute is the lush photography by Nestor Almendros. In 1990, a sequel was made, Return to the Blue Lagoon.
